He really wasn’t kidding when he said Redbone wasn’t pitch-corrected. Then again, I didn’t really expect anything less.

I only just noticed the metallic pants. Your voice has to be on a new level for you to wear metallic pants during a performance and nobody notices.

“Awaken, My Love,” was okay. I agree with Anthony Fantano when he said that, “California,” was very annoying. But I haven’t taken him seriously since the 5/10 review for, “Blank Face.”

Also, “Awaken, My Love,” was dropped on my birthday making it the greatest album of the year so yeah take that Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar.

Here’s the thing. When I was very young, road trips used to be an endeavor when there are two kindergartners and a toddler in the back of a minivan, and my dad kept his cool by always having Motown or Earth, Wind & Fire or Parliament or Funkadelic on the CD player/tape deck. I love “Awaken, My Love” so much because it feels exactly like it could have come out in 1973, and it’s new music that recalls happy memories which is a very rare thing. If you take away the memories, Blank Face is *this* much better than Awaken, My Love. However, because of the memories, I put on Awaken, My Love more often than I do Blank Face.

Either way, JoHn Muir is the best song in the world for blowing through an empty cityscape at 3 AM with your foot constantly more than halfway on the gas, and with Chance, Anderson.Paak, Schoolboy Q, Fat Joe, De La Soul, Kendrick, and D.R.A.M (Seriously, Big Baby D.R.A.M is a great feel good listen) all up for Grammys, 2016 was a dope ass year for hip hop.

I do like the retro feel of, “Awaken, My Love,” that isn’t typically seen in hip hop, and I hope that the soul feel and sound is seen more in hip hop in the coming years. Anderson.Paak makes art. Chance makes art. De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest really threw everybody for a loop this year upon the releases of their latest projects, it felt straight out of 1993. Fantastic. D.R.A.M was probably 2016's breakout artist, with his vibes being far different than those of other hip hop artists. I think 2016 was the best year for hip hop in the last five,or even ten.

I’d agree. Hell, even though TLOP felt like Kanye fell off, the production values were amazing, and you can’t say that about other fall-off albums like Encore.

TLOP’s production quality was great, especially Metro Boomin’s verse for, “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt.1.”

Ugh. So good. But we all know who the best rapper of all time is...
